September is a special month dedicated to blood cancer awareness. And it’s the month to celebrate everyone who is part of the blood cancer and blood disease community at the Be The Match® Gala—an event to raise critical funds to save more lives.
The annual fundraising gala is hosted in Minneapolis, Minn. (home of Be The Match headquarters!). Year after year, this event is truly unforgettable. Mission supporters, patients, marrow donors, families, network partners and financial supporters come together to celebrate every life impacted by transplant
At the 2019 gala just last month, our supporters raised a record breaking $835,542! This support is especially critical because, right now, the future for patients is being re-imagined. Be The Match is working toward a reality in which every patient may receive a life-saving marrow transplant, regardless of their ethnic background or financial circumstance.
Be The Match is committed to doing this work because of patients like Hadi, who lost his battle but had one wish—to save more lives. Patients like Kami and Kathryn received their second chance at life, but the work won’t stop until every searching patient, like Genesis, has a match when they need it.
The funds raised at this year’s event have already been put to use through Hadi’s Fund for Diverse Recruitment . After losing Hadi his family established Hadi’s Fund for Diverse Recruitment to grow and diversify the registry in his memory. Supporting this critical work is an important part of Hadi’s family’s healing process, knowing that other patients like Hadi have hope.
