Scott MacGregor, 2023 Livermore Spirit Award recipient

Livermore Spirit Award winner, Scott MacGregor, riding in the Be The Match Tour de TC

Scott MacGregor’s daughter, Taryn, was just a young girl when she was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia.

Ever since the remarkable day eight years ago when Taryn’s donor match was found, Scott has been working tirelessly to ensure more patients and families have the same healthy outcome his daughter did after she received her bone marrow transplant.

Scott’s hosted hundreds of donor drives, resulting in thousands of new potential life-saving donors being added to the Be The Match Registry®. He’s generously given his time as one of our volunteer couriers, hand delivering life-saving cells to transplant patients in 33 states and across the world. And he’s also served as a Be The Match® legislative ambassador, actively working to advance transplant research and access.

Today Taryn is a healthy 17-year-old who will graduate high school next year, and Scott shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to go the distance to deliver hope to even more patient families. Both this year and last year, he did it with pedal power—riding in the Be The Match Tour de TC, a series of multi-day bike tours designed to raise funds and awareness of the life-saving mission of Be The Match.

Scott was an instrumental leader serving as team captain for the California Wine Country Tour and joining fellow Be The Match supporters riding on the Puget Sound and Victoria, BC Tour. Not only did he help raise awareness for our mission, he raised over $13,000 through his Tour de TC fundraising efforts.

It is because of Scott’s passion, dedication and generosity that we are so honored to name him the recipient of our 2023 Livermore Spirit Award.

Named after brothers Jay and Leigh Livermore, the Livermore Spirit Award recognizes individuals who’ve demonstrated an outstanding commitment to Be The Match’s life-saving mission. Jay Livermore was a faithful volunteer for our Walk+Run event, raising awareness and critical funding on behalf of his brother, Leigh, who received a blood stem cell transplant. After the brothers passed away, the Livermore Spirit Award was created to honor their amazing dedication and commitment to our mission.

If you’re inspired by Scott and the Livermores’ giving spirit, join us for an epic cycling adventure that can change your life and help save someone else’s—on the Tour de TC 2024. Registration is now open for six different rides of varying lengths and difficulties in locations across the country.
