Michael Jones, Chief Information Officer of the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), has been named a CIO of the Year in the nonprofit category by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

Jones joined the NMDP in April 2007 and leads the Information Technology (IT) department, which is responsible for all of the systems that supports the NMDP’s business and technology needs. Under Jones’ leadership, the IT department has improved delivery of key initiatives, resolved legacy issues and deployed the foundational elements of a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to support efficient, optimal systems for business operations. His vision has also led to development of the first strategic IT plan and co-sponsorship of the organization’s business transformation, focused on how NMDP manages information about critical marrow and umbilical cord blood donations.

Fourteen honorees were chosen by a panel of judges from the Twin Cities tech community. Profiles of the 2011 honorees will appear in a special publication of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal in September.
