Since Be The Match® started more than 25 years ago we have developed partnerships with many companies throughout the country. Without their support we would not be able to achieve our life- saving work. Corporations make it their priority to support new, innovative Be The Match initiatives to build Be The Match Registry®, bolster our patients and continue our critical research efforts.
Be The Match Registry has grown from just 10,000 volunteer bone marrow donors to more than 11 million potential life-saving donors over the course of 25 years. Partnerships with organizations like yours make this possible. In fact, registry members recruited through corporate partnerships go on to become some of our most committed donors in the world!
Any organization – large or small – can have an impact in a variety of ways:

The United States Postal Service
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has been a committed partner since 1997. To date, more than 58,000 USPS employees have joined Be The Match Registry®.
Realizing the importance of bringing more diverse donors to our registry, USPS partnered with us to conduct nationwide workplace donor recruitment campaigns. They organized district campaign coordinators who collaborate with our regional and local recruitment staff to hold annual donor registry drives at postal facilities across the country.
As an organization with the largest and most diverse civilian workforce in the country, the USPS also helped diversify our registry to increase the likelihood that all patients will find a live-saving match. In fact, over 50% of USPS employees on the registry are from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
So far, more than 80 patients have found their match among the USPS employees who joined our registry.
3M has been a recognized leader in supporting the life-saving work of Be The Match. Since 1992, 3M has made many financial contributions toward education on the need for marrow donation and encouraging people to join the registry. Through employee-run drives at 3M plants across the country, more than 1,258 employees have joined the registry. Four of these employees have been matched to patients and donated their marrow! 3M recently won the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce Quality of Life Award for their work with us.
Abbott Molecular, a producer of reagents used in the tissue typing process, has partnered with Be The Match for more than 10 years. Abbott has sponsored the IMGT/HLA Database that is used by registries, typing labs, transplant centers and researchers worldwide to determine HLA matches. Abbott has also conducted employee donor drives, from which 75% of the employees who joined the registry were from ethnically or racially diverse backgrounds. One of Abbott’s employees was identified as a match for a young girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The donor and the recipient had the opportunity to meet at a celebration at Abbott Molecular offices.
Aetna and the Aetna Foundation have awarded Be The Match more than $200,000 over the past six years. A significant portion of those dollars have covered the costs of Aetna employees who volunteered to join the registry. Since 1999, more than 1,600 employees have participated in 126 marrow donor registry drives hosted at 41 Aetna offices nationwide.
American Airlines has been a supporter of Be The Match since 1999. American Airlines first became aware of the need for marrow donors when the son of an employee needed a transplant. The company stepped forward to make a generous contribution to Be The Match to cover the cost of adding their employees to the registry. Over the past 11 years, American Airlines has held more than 155 drives, adding more than 3,500 employees to the registry. Eight of those employees have already been a marrow match for a patient in need.
Amgen and the Amgen Foundation have supported Be The Match since 1998. Amgen has added more than 1,400 new members to the registry by hosting more than 50 donor recruitment drives. In 2008, Amgen also received the Admiral Zumwalt Corporate Award for demonstrating consistent, committed support through sponsoring tissue typing and/or educational projects that have led to an increased awareness of Be The Match’s programs, services and mission.
AutoTrader.com supports the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match by sponsoring their signature event, Learn Live Hope. This event raises funds to support donor recruitment for the registry and financial assistance for transplant patients.
Bank of America
Bank of America has sustained a long relationship with the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match. Bank of America has supported patient assistance efforts and most recently committed to title sponsorship of the program’s signature event, Learn Live Hope.
Carolinas Healthcare Foundation
Carolinas Healthcare Foundation supports the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match through sponsorship of their signature event, Learn Live Hope, and the Hendrick Marrow Program Half Marathon and 5K.
Choate Construction Company has granted more than $150,000 to the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match through an eight year relationship as presenting sponsor of Learn Live Hope.
Ford and UAW-Ford have supported Be The Match since 2002. Together they have conducted approximately 130 donor drives and added nearly 3,800 employees to the registry. More than 123 of their employees have gone on to further testing as possible marrow matches for patients.
General Motors (GM) has been a leader in its support of Be The Match and corporate recruitment. Through its Life Match Program, GM has held approximately 190 donor drives and added more than 8,200 employees to the registry. Forty-two employees have gone on to donate marrow. In communities GM serves through its Saturn retailers, the company sponsored Saturn National Donor Day, one of America’s largest annual community-wide one-day donor drives. Saturn held more than 1,900 community donor drives and added more than 12,000 potential marrow donors to the registry.
Hendrick Automotive Group
Rick Hendrick is chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group, a group of automotive dealers across the country. Hendrick Automotive Group and its individual dealerships are avid supporters of the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match and graciously sponsor Learn Live Hope, the program’s signature event.
Histogenetics, a biotech firm that specializes in HLA testing, has supported Be The Match since 2004. Histogenetics is the lead sponsor of the IMGT/HLA Database used by registries, typing labs, transplant centers and researchers worldwide to determine HLA matches.
The Jeff Gordon Foundation
Jeff Gordon and The Jeff Gordon Foundation have granted more than $1 million dollars to support the work of the Hendrick Marrow Program and Be The Match. Gordon uses his platform in motorsports to promote Be The Match initiatives such as the Be The Match Marrowthon and has also made three visits to Capitol Hill to advocate for us.
Kellogg’s has granted thousands of dollars to the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match through financial contributions and in-kind gifts of their products.
LabCorp, a nationwide network of 38 primary testing locations and more than 1,500 patient centers, has partnered with Be The Match for more than 25 years. LabCorp has been a supporter of the IMGT/HLA Database used by registries, typing labs, transplant centers and researchers worldwide to determine HLA matches.
Life Technologies has been a long-standing partner of Be The Match. The organization has sponsored the IMGT/HLA Database as well as many donor drives.
Lowe’s has been a sponsor of the Hendrick Marrow Program’s signature event, Learn Live Hope, and the Hendrick Marrow Program Half Marathon and 5K.
Nationwide Insurance Foundation
Nationwide Insurance Foundation sponsored the 2008 NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive. This initiative called on NASCAR fans to give blood and join the registry.
One Lambda, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is the leading manufacturer of HLA Typing Reagents and Antibody Detection Kits. The organization has supported Be The Match since 2002. One Lambda is one of the top sponsors of the IMGT/HLA Database.
Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals Inc. (OAPI) has demonstrated active, sustaining commitment to supporting Be The Match and the transplant community. OAPI has provided unrestricted educational grants to our medical education efforts and has also educated their employees on the need for bone marrow and cord blood donors. OAPI also provided a generous grant to sponsor online donor recruitment, which has funded more than 1,000 new registry members.
The Pall Corporation has partnered with Be The Match to update an educational video used by public cord blood banks throughout the U.S., Public Cord Blood Collection DVD: Background and Technique. The video is used as a supplemental training resource to the detailed collection instructions unique to their cord blood bank procedures. It provides an overview of cord blood collection techniques to maximize collection volume and quality.
Speedway Children’s Charities – Charlotte Chapter
Speedway Children’s Charities supports the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match through a co-branded event called Speed for Children in Need. In its second year, participation topped 900 individuals and generated great exposure to the mission of the Hendrick Marrow Program.
James R. Vannoy and Sons Construction
James R. Vannoy and Sons Construction supports the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match through sponsorship of its signature event, Learn Live Hope.
