For many people facing these cancers or other blood disorders like sickle cell, a cure exists—a blood stem cell transplant. But 70% of patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family. Walgreens is collaborating with NMDP to help more patients find a matching donor for a life-saving transplant. Alfredo is an amazing boy who’s been struggling with pain and gastro-intestinal issues since he was born, due to a rare genetic disorder. His only hope for a cure is a blood stem cell transplant—but it’s been 10 years and he’s still searching for his donor match.
Beth donated to help someone
After losing her father to COVID-19, Beth followed in his footsteps (he was already on the registry) and signed up as a potential donor. In February 2022, she received the call that she was a potential match for someone. Beth went on to donate peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) and feels proud she was able to honor her father and help someone else get more time with their family.
