Our global Network of partners
When a patient needs a blood stem cell transplant, it takes coordination among centers and labs across the country—and the world. From the time a transplant center requests a donor to the time a patient receives their blood stem cells, NMDPSM carefully coordinates and facilitates every step with our global Network.
Centers that are part of the NMDP Network
Our Network includes more than 420 transplant centers, cooperative registries, donor centers, apheresis centers, collection centers, member cord blood banks and testing labs.
Centers in our Network must meet our quality standards and meet our participation criteria to ensure the highest quality care for donors and patients.
Explore how each center is involved in life-saving blood stem cell transplants.
Transplant centers
Patients receive their blood stem cell transplant at a transplant center. We work closely with the transplant center team throughout the search, cell collection and cell delivery process to deliver high quality blood stem cells for their patient.
Cooperative registries
Each donor or cord blood unit (CBU) search through NMDP provides patients with access to more than 41 million potential donors and more than 800,000 CBUs. These potential donors and CBUs can be part of the NMDP RegistrySM or one of the 48 global cooperative registries in our Network.
Donor centers
When a person is called to donate, a specialist from a donor center will guide them through every step of the process—from explaining what donation is like through donation day.
Cord blood banks
Some patients will have a transplant using cells that were collected after a baby is born and then frozen and stored for donation at a U.S. or international cord blood bank. The cord blood units in these banks are included in every patient’s search of the registry.
Apheresis centers and collection centers
An adult donor will go to an apheresis center or collection center to have their blood stem cells collected. Apheresis centers collect peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC). PBSC is the most common way cells are collected from donors. Collection centers are in hospitals that perform bone marrow collections. If you are selected as a potential donor, your donor team will help make arrangements for the site of your donation.
