Ways to volunteer with NMDP℠

As a volunteer with NMDP, you’ll be able to put your unique skills and passions to work helping change the lives of patients around the world.

Current volunteer opportunities

We strive to offer ways to get involved that are as varied as our community of supporters. Take the first step to unlock the good by browsing through the options below or searching our listings (Opens in a new tab) to see what volunteer opportunities are currently available. With NMDP, good goes a long way.

Host a registry recruitment event

Those who like to be in the heart of the action should consider hosting a registry recruitment event. At these drives, you’ll add new members to the NMDP Registry℠ while also educating your community or college campus (Opens in a new tab) about blood stem cell donation and the need for more donors. An NMDP representative will provide everything you need for your drive, allowing you to focus on inviting others and setting up the event.

If you’re planning to hold a registry recruitment event in support of a specific patient, fill out our Searching Patient Engagement Form (Opens in a new tab). If you’d like to host a general drive, click on the link below.

Volunteer at a registry recruitment event

If you don’t have the capacity or desire to put on your own recruitment event, you can still grow the registry by volunteering at one of our already scheduled events. You can share your excitement about our mission by greeting attendees, talking with potential donors about what it means to join the registry and helping registrants swab.

Volunteer at a fundraising event

Throughout the year, NMDP puts on or supports events—such as athletic events, galas and auctions—that raise money to help us find cures and save lives. Volunteers are the backbones of these events, both during the lead-up and day-of. Your skills and time are needed to help us reach our goals! Sign up to volunteer at a fundraising event.

Mentor patients

For many patients, connecting with someone who’s been in their shoes can be a lifeline. If you’re a blood stem cell transplant recipient who’d like to give back, join the NMDP Peer Connect program and draw on your experiences to help others.

Voice of the Community

Your knowledge as a patient or caregiver can be used to help others during their transplant experience. As a volunteer with Voice of the Community, you can share regular feedback to help make sure our programs and resources meet the needs of others like you.

Volunteer courier

After someone donates, their blood stem cells are hand-delivered to the patient’s hospital—and we rely on volunteer couriers to make that journey. Patients may live anywhere in the world, and couriers can expect to travel throughout the U.S. or even overseas. Because of the time sensitivity of preserving blood stem cells, this role is critical.
