A Chicago man who recently underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat lymphoma is thinking of others as he recovers. Judson Green, a former executive with The Walt Disney Company and Navteq Corp., crafted a CD of jazz piano compositions. Proceeds from the iTunes sales benefit all patients in need of a marrow transplant through contributions to Be The Match Foundation®.

The CD is called “It’s Just Me...” and features 19 original jazz compositions for piano.

“This gift is truly inspiring. Mr. Green is using his music to encourage more people to become marrow donors. He’s sharing more than his talent as a musician, he’s sharing the gift of real hope for families searching for a marrow match for their loved one,” said Christine Fleming, president of Be The Match Foundation®.

When Green learned of his need for a marrow transplant, he also quickly learned that no one in his family was a marrow match. Doctors turned to Be The Match Registry®, the largest and most diverse listing of potential marrow donors in the world. Seventy percent of patients in need of a marrow transplant have no match in their family and depend on the kindness of strangers and Be The Match®.

Green and his family have worked hard to get as many people as possible to join
Be The Match Registry. They succeeded in adding more than 600 potential donors.
Green’s best match was found in Europe and his transplant took place in May 2011.

“After going through the transplant process and understanding all that is involved, we both realize that without the help of Be The Match, we would never have been able to find a donor for Judson. My husband and I are enormously grateful for Be The Match and will continue to proactively encourage individuals to join the marrow registry and give the gift of life,” said Joyce Green, Judson’s wife.

Green has had a love of music since he began to study piano at the age of four. He graduated from DePauw University with a degree in economics and a minor in musical composition. His master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business launched a successful business career that has taken him to many high-ranking executive positions with Disney and Navteq Corp., a provider of digital map data. Despite his business success, Green has said: “Music is the essence of who I am.”
