Meet Kianna
Kianna swabbed her cheek and joined the Be The Match Registry®. Two years later, she received a call saying she was a match for a 17-year-old with severe aplastic anemia.
Most of the time donors donate through a process similar to donating plasma. However, the patient’s doctor wanted a different type of blood stem cells through marrow donation. Kianna fully admits she was nervous at first—but says the donation process
ended up being super simple. She was put under anesthesia, so she didn’t feel anything. She later was able to meet her perfect match—the person she saved!
“I can honestly say there are no words to express the emotions I felt knowing that such a simple sacrifice on my part resulted in this young girl getting another chance to live a healthy life. I am a huge believer in the idea that everyone on this earth has a purpose in life and I am pretty sure I have found mine,” says Kianna.
