Anchorage Boy Searching for a Life-Saving Donor

Star Wars, Marvel, Baby Yoda, all things we expect a 6-year-old to be preoccupied with, however for Tiberius there is a lot more on his plate. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia over a year ago, Tiberius spent his summer break in the hospital going through treatment for this life-threatening disease. He needs a blood stem cell transplant to have a fighting chance at a cure.

An Alaska native, Tiberius and his family headed to Seattle for his treatment and he has been there ever since. “He had his first stem cell transplant in November of last year and unfortunately, he relapsed after 80 days,” Tasha, Tiberius’ mom said in an interview with KTUU in Anchorage, Alaska.

For that procedure, Tiberius’ father donated his stem cells but he was not a full match. Tiberius needs a donor who shares a similar ethnic background.

After hearing his story, Christy, a Be The Match® volunteer ambassador and cancer survivor organized two donor registry events in Alaska to help find a match for Tiberius. His family is thankful for all of the support they have received during this difficult time. The hope is that one day soon, Tiberius will find his match and get back to doing the things he loves.

You can help Tiberius transform from searching patient into survivor. If you are between the ages of 18-40, join the Be The Match Registry®. Visit my.bethematch.org to learn more about how you can join.
