An urgent need to help patients in crisis

With the support of Ira and Diana Riklis, Be The Match established the Crisis Grant in 2018. This grant is awarded to patients with extraordinary financial need. Requests average $10,000 per patient family but fluctuate depending on the need. These grants allow patients to cover any financial barrier, so they can focus on their healing and recovery.

Current Funding Gap

Due to the increase in grant requests that we’ve seen since the beginning of the pandemic, our Crisis Grant fund has been depleted.

An Urgent Need

Requests are continuing to come in. Even with the fund depleted and the option to request a Crisis Grant removed from the grant application, we are continuing to receive multiple requests per month –ranging from $6,000 to over $12,000 per patient.

The immediate need to fulfill requests for Crisis Grants totals at least $160,000 and will impact at least 16 families.

Over the past year, there was a 50% increase in the number of grants we gave to families focused on getting patients to, and through, transplant. The pandemic is leaving families in even more difficult situations than they were previously –patients need our help more than ever before to get their second chance at life.

"This grant will help them purchase a safe, used vehicle and pay housing and utility debts to keep their home. Above all, it will put them back on the path to recovery in the hopes of resuming a full life together again."
