Performs adult transplants

The Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute is a FACT-accredited adult cellular therapy program that performs autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Cellular therapy products for transplanation are obtained from related and unrelated donors with variable degrees of matching. The program preferentially uses peripheral blood stem cells and umbilical cord blood. The WPCI is a stem cell and marrow collection facility for the National Marrow Donor Program, harvesting cells for use across the globe. Full inpatient and outpatient services are available including transplant procedures utilizing reduced-intensity conditioning. The program actively participates in the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Ocology (formerly Cancer and Acute Leukemia Group B), The BMT Clinical Trials Network, and in addition has active internal research initiatives. The WPCI serves its patients first and foremost.

This center has been performing allogeneic transplants since 1990 and has been an NMDP transplant center since February 1991.
