After being diagnosed with aplastic anemia in the sixth grade, Joe’s life was pretty normal for three years, until his leg started bleeding on a camping trip and wouldn't stop. Doctors told him a bone marrow transplant was his best chance for long-term recovery. He was 15 years old, and after transplant, Joe’s family and friends were around all the time.
