You and your doctors will keep your relationship after your transplant. Continued follow-up is important to protect your health. Your doctors will watch for late complications related to the transplant or prior treatment.

Be The Match provides long-term follow-up guidelines for you and your doctor . These guidelines will help you and your doctor quickly find complications that can occur after transplant. When symptoms are found and treated early, there may be more options for treatment, and those treatments can be more effective.

For some people, there may be more than one doctor caring for them after transplant. Some patients may see their primary doctor for most of their care and their transplant doctor for treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and other transplant-related issues. Talk with your doctors and encourage them to speak with each other to understand who is responsible for providing you with different types of care. This will help you know who you should call to report any new symptoms or see for follow-up appointments.
