Volunteer Spotlight: Vivek Annadata

About Vivek
I am from San Ramon, California and an incoming freshman to Hofstra University. I have always been fascinated by the medical field and I am passionate about community service, nurtured through my many years of scouting, and the path to becoming an Eagle Scout.

Why he got involved as a volunteer for Be The Match
My first revelation about the nasty repercussions of cancer was when I lost my grandfather to a battle with renal cancer. My grandfather’s death spurred me into action, to learn more about cancer and see how I could make a difference. In my freshman year of high school, I began to volunteer at Be The Match events, learning what the organization is and what it does. At fifteen, I hosted my first bone marrow donor drive.

Vivek’s greatest accomplishment so far as a volunteer
Persevering to host a donor recruitment drive despite its rejection as an Eagle Project was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Since then, I have spent over 200 hours representing Be The Match and hosting numerous drives all across the Bay Area. Any one of the numerous individuals registered at my drives could be someone who miraculously matches with an afflicted patient. This indescribable sense of gratification adds impetus to my goal of continuing as a Be The Match volunteer.
