The inaugural Tour de TC gives hope and powers cures

This year Be The Match® kicked off our first Tour de TC with six epic, multi-day cycling events across the country. The mission? To raise critical funds, build public awareness and give hope to patients on their stem cell transplant journey.

We’re pleased to report that our mission was accomplished!

The Tour de TC by the numbers

Individual regional rides were hosted throughout the country: Florida (April 20–29), California (May 27–June 5), East Coast: Adirondacks (July 2-16), East Coast: Boston to Philly, Midwest (Sept. 17–27) and Minnesota (Oct 1).

Twenty-seven cyclists, including four transplant recipients, two stem cell donors, eight transplant recipient family members, and eight transplant physicians and staff members rode 2,915 miles. Along the way they visited nearly 15 transplant centers to show support for patients and medical providers.

As a result of this incredible pedal power, more than $129,000 was raised to help add more potential life-saving donors to the Be The Match Registry®, cover uninsured costs for patients in need and fund groundbreaking research to improve transplant outcomes.

Reaching an audience of over 34.8 million through online news, TV and radio, we successfully raised awareness for our life-saving mission.

Tour de TC highlights

While there were many ride highlights, two especially stand out: seven-year transplant recipient Elle Crofton riding with her dad, Harry, for the East Coast Tour de TC, together raising over $10,000 for Be The Match! And our $25,000 presenting sponsor, Sobi, celebrating the Boston kickoff with a starting line sendoff that included many of their employees.

We’re so grateful to all who participated and to our support and gear drivers who volunteered their time on each ride. We’d love for you to join us on the road next year for another inspiring ride. Keep an eye out for Tour de TC 2023—routes and dates are coming soon!
