Genesis was born with sickle cell anemia. Between the age of 4 and 5, Genesis’ sickle cell disease started to present itself and as she grew older, her pain intensified. Throughout her childhood, Genesis has experienced several silent strokes, depression and pain crises. She gracefully managed all her blood transfusions, unexpected trips to the emergency room and her regular appointments.
Genesis is currently pursuing a clinical trial through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for her sickle cell disease and hopes this will be the cure she needs to continue life sickle cell free. She shares what living with sickle cell disease is like in this video:
