Be The Match® employee takes PRIDE in helping save a life

As a Be The Match employee, Mitch knows firsthand how vital a blood stem cell transplant can be to saving a searching patient’s life. So when he was contacted as a potential match on his birthday in 2020, he accepted without hesitation.

At the time, the patient was not ready to receive the transplant but less than two years later, Mitch received the call he had been waiting on. The patient was now ready to move forward. “I am just so excited to be able to donate, it’s a dream come true here for me,” said Mitch.

By documenting his entire donation journey, Mitch gave an inside look of the process while spreading awareness about Be The Match and the Be The Match Registry®. “It’s something I never thought would happen,” said Mitch. He traveled to the Be The Match collection center in Seattle to donate peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC). Those life-saving cells then took a journey across the world to help.

For Mitch, Be The Match is “a place where I work and a place that I love.” He is also a founder of the Be The Match PRIDE Employee Resource Group (ERG). After many successful PRIDE month events in 2020, Be The Match had the official kick off of the PRIDE Employee Resource Group in summer of 2021.

Mitch continues to be a leader in PRIDE ERG by spreading the word to the LGBTQIA+ community that all people are welcome, able and encouraged to join the registry.

There are so many ways you can get involved with Be The Match for PRIDE month. Shop PRIDE merchandise, give a gift or join the registry. Be The Match proudly supports the LGBTQIA+ community with the message to Be Proud. Be You. Be The Match.
