Reporter Dan Goldberg featured umbilical cord blood transplant recipient Jennifer Jones Austin and highlighted her fight against leukemia. Jennifer was recently appointed co-chair of New York City Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio’s transition team. As a strong community leader and advocate, Jennifer has never been one to back down from a challenge. When she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009, Jennifer and her family and friends worked with the Icla da Silva Foundation to register more than 13,000 new potential bone marrow donors to the Be The Match Registry. Airam da Silva, president of the foundation, was interviewed for the article, noting that Jennifer’s campaign to recruit new donors was the largest recruitment campaign in the foundation’s history.
