Nivia Charles, a 15-year-old California girl fighting sickle cell anemia, shared her story on Bay Sunday. Since her first birthday, Nivia has fought episodes of pain and fatigue associated with the disease. Her only hope for a cure is an unrelated bone marrow transplant. Nivia and her mother have partnered with Be The Match to host numerous bone marrow donor registry drives to raise awareness around her community. Myrada Benjamin, an account executive with Be The Match, was also interviewed for the segment. She explained the need for more bone marrow donors, how to join the registry and the donation process.
