Racing to save lives
Diagnosed with leukemia in 1997, owner of Hendrick Motorsports Rick Hendrick established the Hendrick Marrow Program of Be The Match®. Even though he did not need a marrow transplant himself, he was driven to help other patients searching for a marrow match and give them a second chance at life.
The Be The Match Hendrick Marrow Program has been crucial to helping raise money to add more potential donors to the Be The Match Registry®. The program also helps patients pay for uninsured transplant costs, which are often a barrier to treatment.
In the 15 years since the start of the Hendrick Marrow Program:
- More than $13 million has been raised
- More than 100,000 members have been added to the Be The Match Registry
- More than 8,000 patients have received grants from the Hendrick Family Fund for Patient Assistance
The Hendrick Marrow Program also connected four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon with Be The Match. Thanks to Jeff’s extraordinary generosity, both individually and through the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, millions of dollars have been raised to help remove the barriers to transplant for waiting patients.
